Therapy for Relationship Issues

Understanding Relationship Issues

Relationship issues can arise in various forms and affect different types of relationships, each bringing its unique challenges and dynamics. Whether it involves partners, family members, friends, or colleagues, difficulties in relationships can significantly impact an individual’s emotional well-being and daily life.

Types of Relationships Affected by Issues

At Touchstone Trauma Therapy, we address issues across a wide range of relationships:

  1. Romantic Relationships: Issues may include communication problems, trust issues, infidelity, and differences in values or life goals.
  2. Family Relationships: Challenges such as conflicts with parents, sibling rivalry, or dealing with blended families.
  3. Friendships: Issues might involve jealousy, miscommunications, or growing apart.
  4. Professional Relationships: Challenges can include conflicts with coworkers or managers, communication problems, or job dissatisfaction.
  5. Parent-Child Relationships: Common issues include behavioral challenges, parenting disagreements, and developmental concerns.

Our Approach to Relationship Issues Treatment

Kristin Cantella, LMFT, utilizes a variety of therapeutic approaches to help individuals and groups resolve relationship issues. Our treatments are tailored to meet the specific needs of each relationship type, fostering understanding, and promoting healthy interactions.

Couples Therapy

For romantic partners, couples therapy can address the root causes of conflicts, improve communication, and strengthen the relationship. TTT utilized Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT) in working with couples. EFCT is a modality developed by Sue Johnson, PhD that focuses on attachment issues and aims to create more connection within the relationship and to build a greater sense of safety and trust for one another.

IFS & EMDR

IFS and EMDR can be helpful for couples with trauma histories. Each individual or couple will be assessed to see if they are appropriate for these modalities. Often, trauma in one’s background can interfere with one’s ability to trust, to be vulnerable, and to open up, all of which are important qualities in a healthy relationship. When trauma issues are addressed, clients begin to be able to practice greater vulnerability and openness and begin to allow their partner to be there for them as support. Trust in one another can be built or strengthened.

Family Therapy

Family therapy can help members understand each other’s perspectives, improve communication, and resolve conflicts. It’s especially beneficial for addressing dynamics that contribute to family strife.

Interpersonal Therapy

This form of therapy focuses on improving communication skills and increasing relationship satisfaction across all types of relationships, including friendships and professional relationships.

Mediation and Conflict Resolution

These strategies are applied to directly address and resolve disputes in any relationship setting, helping all parties to find common ground and work towards a resolution.
